Daniel Elwing is a commercial and short film director with a background in traditional fine arts and contemporary motion design. In addition to live action directing, his work often encompasses that of a writer, designer, animator, editor, and musician.

After a youth spent experimenting with super8 and shooting short films with friends, he started as a PA in the mid-90's on various commercial and documentary productions. While working his way to directing, he spent some time as a high school instructor at the modest age of 19.

Daniel continually tests and experiments with new materials and techniques, including music and sound, which eventually find their way to fully realized projects.

His commercial work for clients ranging from Nike to Westin has been seen throughout the world in both large scale installations and intimate gallery venues, in addition to traditional broadcasts. These projects, along with numerous non-commercial works, have permitted Daniel to be recognized and included in such lists and publications as IdN, Stash, Shots New Directors Reel, Adcritic's "Spot of the Day", RES magazine's "RES 10", and a nominee for the Cooper-Hewitt National Design Award.

Daniel's dedication and enjoyment for the work and its process is visible in the continuous output and creation of film, photo, and audio projects. In 2004, Daniel and his wife Kelly began directing and creating a variety of commercial, short films, music, and photography projects under the alias Impactist.
